Top 5 Greatest Leicester City Players of The Premier League

Top 5 Leicester City Players of the Premier League Era

Leicester City have had their fair share of highs and lows during their time in the Premier League over the years. They were relegated in 2002 and just a few seasons later they found themselves down in League One, the third tier of English football. However, in more recent years there has been a huge surge as the Foxes remarkably won the league in 2016 and now battling for European football. We’ve decided to rank the top five best Leicester City players of the Premier League era in terms of their impact and achievements at the club.

5) Muzzy Izzet 1996-2004 260 PL Apps, 37 Goals

Izzet came to Leicester in the 1996-1997 season on a permanent deal after a loan spell at the club. Izzet proved to be a vital player during his eight-year stay and was the driving factor that led Leicester to League Cup triumphs in his first season there. Over the years he accumulated 37 goals in 260 games, which is a solid return for a wide player playing in a mediocre Leicester side. He had the potential to move to bigger and better teams but proved his loyalty by staying on at Leicester and becoming their star man.

4) N’Golo Kante 2015-2016 37 PL Apps, 1 Goal

Kante has gone on to win another Premier League title and World Cup since he departed Leicester however, his time with the Foxes cannot be forgotten about. He was instrumental in Leicester’s title-winning campaign and was the heart of the team. He may not have the goals and assists to show for his time there however, the number of times he won the ball back and started attacks for Leicester was incredible. It comes to no surprise that he has gone on to be one of the world’s best midfielders.

3) Kasper Schmeichel 2011-Present 200 PL Apps, 0 Goals

Following on from the legacy of his father, Schmeichel has gone on to be one of Leicester’s most reliable players in the last five years. Over the years he has demonstrated his skills as a very solid goalkeeper by making very few mistakes and becoming famously good at saving penalties. So far, he has racked up exactly 200 Premier League appearances and has had 64 clean sheets. Showing no signs of slowing down, he will continue to be one of Leicester’s most pivotal men in the next few years, which makes it hard to put him any lower than third.

2) Riyad Mahrez 2014-2018 139 PL Apps, 39 Goals

Mahrez oozed class whenever he graced the field in a Leicester shirt and continues to do so at Manchester City. After a magnificent 2015-2016 season, Mahrez won the PFA player of the year award by providing a handful of goals and assists throughout. His time at Leicester after this season was slightly tarnished by the frequent transfer rumours he was involved in, however, he continued to display signs of his quality by accumulating 18 goals in the following two seasons. Easily Leicester’s most skillful player of the Premier League era.

1)      Jamie Vardy 2014-Present 210 PL Apps, 103 Goals

It's virtually impossible to not put Vardy in at number one on this list as his rise to the top has been an inspiration and his importance to the Foxes has been monumental. Recently, he joined the 100-goal club and now can be regarded as an all-time Premier League legend, purely based on the number of goals he provides for Leicester. Though he is now 33 years of age he has shown no signs of hanging up his boots as he is now on course of the Premier League Golden Boot this year. Ultimately, he is irreplaceable, and Leicester have been privileged to have him at his best for so many years. It is also worth mentioning that Vardy never gets injured, so that may prove to be important for how many more years he has left in the game.
