Villa Brushed Aside By Champions

Dean Smiths' Aston Villa came up against newly-crowned champions Liverpool this evening in a brave encounter taking 71 minutes to frustrate the reds into getting their first goal by Mane after receiving a cross from the left flank. To round it off, youngster Curtis Jones who has just signed a new contract scored a terrific goal to round up the game. Full-time result - 2:0 Liverpool.

The defeat suffered by Villa still sees them remain in the relegation zone with the games coming in thick and fast, they need to fight hard if they want to remain in the Premier League next season. Tyrone Mings suffered an injury late in the second half, concerning fans that this could be a repeat of the hamstring injury he obtained earlier on in the season. Villa have now only avoided defeat twice in the last 6 matches, only in two draws against Sheffield United and Newcastle. Two of their remaining five fixtures are against the 'big six sides' Manchester United on Thursday and Arsenal on the 21st of July. Points will have to be earned against the other fixtures, Crystal Palace at home, Everton away, and West Ham away.

Dean Smith said prior to the match that 'relegation is just not worth thinking about' when he was interviewed by the Daily Mail.
